Build My Future

MACON, MISSOURI, September 21, 2022 – McClure had the opportunity to share surveying, civil, and structural engineering with over 1,600 students at the Build My Future Construction Career Day & Industry Showcase in Macon, Missouri.

According to the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Missouri Chapter, Build My Future is a one day, interactive, construction career day targeting students in the 9th through 12th grades. Build My Future is an opportunity for students to get their hands dirty and to explore a wide variety of career opportunities in the construction industry.

“We enjoyed spending time with students and showing them our passion for engineering,” said Philip Wilson, PE, Project Engineer on McClure’s water team. Wilson has been practicing the profession for over 18 years in central Missouri.

One of McClure’s interactive exhibits included walking students through structural calculations for a rope bridge. “Building a rope bridge is an easy way to look at basic engineering principles on a full size scale,” said Josh Garton, Project Manager for McClure’s structural team.

Outside, members of McClure’s survey team demonstrated a drone used for mapping and allowed students to use GPS to mark out a McClure logo in the grass. “It was a great opportunity to demonstrate our modern surveying technology.  Many of the students were not aware of what surveyors do, and to see them take interest in the field is very rewarding,” said Tim Devaney, Project Manager for McClure’s survey team. “Investing in the next generation of engineers, surveyors, and technicians is critical to the success of our industry.”

Investing in the next generation of engineers is critical to the success of our industry. The McClure Foundation is proud to provide financial support for Build My Future and other opportunities that  open doors to STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
