NORTH LIBERTY, IOWA, January 3, 2023- Lee Strait has joined McClure’s Environmental team as an Environmental Engineer.

Strait graduated from Iowa State University. He is certified as an ‘Iowa Certified Construction Site Pollution Prevention Inspector and Installer’ (ICCSPPI) and trained as a Wetland Delineator. Before coming to McClure, Strait spent 6 years building and operating a biomass fuel production facility. He was the Business Manager and was responsible for sales, accounting, financing, employee management, rebuilding/acquiring equipment, etc. He then spent 7 years selling, developing, and implementing sustainability programs for large industrial manufacturers with a focus on waste reduction through reuse and recycling programs. The biggest success was achieving up to 95% recycling rate and 50% waste cost reduction for an ethanol manufacturer in Nebraska. Strait used that success to sell the program to eight other large locations around the Midwest. He was in sales and business development for a sand, gravel, and amended soil producer in Chicagoland for four years. Following that Straight worked as an Environmental Engineering with Emmons and Olivier Resources and spent nine months there working under Aaron Gwinnup before he made the move to McClure.

Strait will be working alongside the Environmental team working on water-related projects such as stormwater management, stream restorations, permitting, etc. He is looking forward to implementing sustainable practices that improve and beautify our environment into construction projects. When asked what made him decide to join McClure, he said, “The focus on people! I really enjoyed working with Aaron Gwinnup in my last job so I couldn’t turn down an opportunity to continue working him.”
