NORTH KANSAS CITY, Missouri November 18, 2022 – Each year the Design-Build Institute of America – Mid-America Region (DBIA-MAR), an organization to advance single-source project delivery, recognizes successful projects that were delivered through the design-build procurement method.

This year, McClure was awarded the 2022 DBIA-MAR Excellence Award for Civil Infrastructure for the Northwest 68th Street – Waukomis Drive to MO-169 Kansas City, Missouri project.

McClure partnered with Superior Bowen to deliver an award-winning (DBIA) roadway improvement project along NW 68th Street from NW Waukomis Drive to US 169 in Kansas City, Missouri. Improvements on this 1.3-mile corridor included replacing existing monolithic curbs with two-foot curb and gutter, milling existing concrete and overlaying with specialized asphalt, repairing sidewalks, installing ADA-compliant ramps, rehabbing a bike trail, repairing storm sewers, and placing new pavement markings.

“McClure and Superior Bowen were able to deliver a 1.3 mile road project to the City of Kansas City from design-Notice-to-Proceed to construction-completion in less than a year,” said Jay Burress, Team Leader of McClure’s Transportation team. “Additionally, through some very innovative ideas, our team was able to deliver the whole project for about $3 million while the other 2 teams against whom we competed had bid $5.5 million each. Justin Vogel and I were talking to Michael Shaw, KCMO Director of Public Works after the award ceremony, and he shared with us that the $2.5 million which we saved the city was applied to the Line Creek Boulevard project, which McClure was informed today that we are being awarded the design contract to prepare plans. Without the saved money from the 68th Street Design-Build project, the Line Creek project likely would not have gone forward. Therefore, this truly was a rare instance of helping our client and having it “paid forward” back to us. Talk about a win-win!”
