WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT, LAKE PARK, IA

Project Overview

Lake Park, Iowa, population 1,167, is a growing lake community in Northwest Iowa, 20 minutes from the Iowa Great Lakes. In 2018 the City received a new NPDES wastewater discharge permit with new ammonia and E.coli limits that they couldn’t meet with their current constructed wetland treatment system. The City turned to McClure to help them evaluate their compliance options, as well as plan for the continued growth of the community.
McClure evaluated several treatment technologies, ultimately recommending an Aero-Mod activated sludge treatment system. This system replaced the existing lagoons and wetlands. This system was selected because of its ability to serve the growth of the community as well as meet all current and future permit limits. The project was funded with a CDBG grant, WTFAP grant, and an SRF loan. Construction began in early 2021 and was completed in October, 2022. The total project cost was $6.7M.
