NORTH LIBERTY, IOWA, November 7, 2022- Aaron Gwinnup has joined McClure’s Environmental team as Team leader.

Gwinnup graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science Engineering and a Master of Science Engineering. Before coming to McClure, Gwinnup owned and operated his own construction company, specializing in historic restoration and remodeling of old houses and commercial / institutional buildings. Gwinnup went back to the University of Iowa to study and serve as an Environmental Engineer Research Assistant for 3 years helping with phytoremediation experiments (using plants and microbes to detoxify soil and water naturally). He also travelled to the Gulf of Mexico twice; once to measure the near-record size 2008 “dead zone” at the Mississippi River outlet, and once to study the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill effects on salt marsh vegetation. Afterward, he worked at HR Green as a Water Resources Engineer for 8 years, doing a wide variety of projects including “green stormwater infrastructure” design, stream restoration, dam and levee improvements, floodplain modeling and mapping, roadway drainage, master planning, and ecological / wetland restoration. He also worked at EOR as Senior Water Resources Engineer for 3.5 years doing stream restoration, habitat / ecological restoration, dam modifications, lake and lakeshore improvements, environmental permitting, green infrastructure design, municipal design review services, and stormwater planning and policy projects.

Gwinnup will be working in our North Liberty Office as Team Leader of the Environmental group. He is looking forward to working with multi-discipline teams on diverse projects across the Midwest and pursuing his passion of water quality and ecological restoration at McClure. When asked what made him decide to join McClure, he said, “McClure has a unique approach to business and personnel management. It’s easy to see how they’ve earned “Great place to work” status, and have so many clients that have been coming back for years. McClure wanted to expand into the Water Resources and Environmental Services sector, and they have committed to a sensible, long-term, and diverse-team approach. When they made it clear that this wasn’t just about revenue, they really want to “do well by doing right” by our environment, I signed on and I’m thankful for the opportunity to help lead that effort.”
