McCLURE FOUNDATION

McClure is working to fulfill its vision of making lives better in more ways than one. Through the McClure Foundation, we’re working to open doors to STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics – opportunities. The foundation focuses on communities in Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas and complements McClure’s Volunteer Time Off (VTO) program.

NOMINATE AN ORGANIZATION

 

Requirements:
    • Organization must be a 501(c)(3)
    • Purpose of the organization is advancing STEAM related education and opportunities
    • Organizations make a positive impact in or near McClure communities:
      • Iowa: Ankeny, Carroll, Cedar Rapids, Clive, Council Bluffs, Coralville, Fort Dodge, Sioux City
      • Kansas: Lenexa
      • Massachusetts: Boston
      • Missouri: Columbia, Macon, North Kansas City
      • New hampshire: Portsmouth

Merrill Middle School Science Club

Merrill Middle School has focused its efforts on expanding its STEAM opportunities for students. The STEAM activities include Lego FIRST League, Science Club, Gardening Club, Nature Club, Mustang TV, Makerspace, and planned joint endeavors. McClure’s funding supports activities for at least 50 Merrill families, eliminates barriers to participation in regional and national competitions, and fosters the school’s plans to build a coordinated group of STEAM-related opportunities for the students. The Merrill Middle School Science Club is building excitement around STEAM and connecting students with lifelong passions and opportunities.

Fort Dodge Play and Learn Center

The Fort Dodge Play and Learn Center is a nonprofit organization that opened its doors in August of 2022. The play and learn center allow families to connect with others in the community and gives children a place to explore and learn. They are aiming to provide rich opportunities such as creating art, building with materials, exploring through hands-on sensory experiences, and more. The Fort Dodge Play and Learn Center hosts play times for the community and has a future goal to offer educational classes for children and families.

University of Missouri Kansas City – Concrete Canoe Team

Concrete Canoe is an ASCE-sponsored collegiate competition in which universities from across the nation design, construct, and race canoes made of lightweight concrete and reinforcement. UMKC is participating in this competition and is using the McClures funds towards material, software, and transportation. Sean Purdue, part of McClure’s 2022 internship class and President of the UMKC student chapter of ASCE, led the team to a regional win in April 2022.

University of Kansas – Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders is a service-based organization focused on helping communities locally, domestically, and internationally. The KU-EWB chapter has an ongoing project in Azacilo-Colani, Bolivia where they are building solar-heated showers and bathroom facilities throughout the town. They are also working in local communities with Habitat for Humanity to purchase and rebuild old housing units for an affordable price.

The Little Panther Daycare and Preschool

Little Panther Daycare and Preschool has a mission to provide high quality safe and affordable childcare in a loving and nurturing environment. The Little Panther Daycare and Preschool can now offer STEAM-oriented toys that enable children to engage in collaborative, hands-on activities, fostering the development of critical thinking skills while they play.
