CLIVE, IOWA, May 1, 2025 – At McClure, we believe in not just practicing engineering but helping to shape the future of it. That’s why we’re proud to share that Josh Garton, E & I Technical Manager, authored CFSEI Technical Note L400-25: Non-Bearing Lateral Force Resisting System, published in March 2025.
This Technical Note explores the use of non-bearing wall systems to resist lateral loads in cold-formed steel structures. It outlines the conditions under which these systems can be effective, identifies potential limitations, and discusses how their performance differs from traditional shear walls that also support vertical loads. Josh’s work provides helpful design context and encourages engineers to consider non-bearing configurations when appropriate for the structure.
By contributing to this body of knowledge, the McClure Structural team are helping other professionals better navigate structural design challenges and expand their toolkit of solutions.
All CFSEI Technical Notes are available to CFSEI members for free download, and to non-members through CFSEI On Demand.
