McClure earned First Place – Residential/Hospitality in the 2026 CFSEI Design Excellence Awards for its work on Kindred Resorts in Keystone, Colorado. The multi-building mountain resort features a highly complex roof system designed to support the project’s architectural vision and demanding alpine conditions.
McClure served as the cold-formed steel (CFS) specialty engineer, leading the engineering, detailing, and modeling of the roof’s stick-framed CFS joist system. The design integrates CFS framing with trusses and structural steel elements to support vaulted ceilings, multi-plane geometry, and long spans throughout the development.
Located in a high-elevation ski environment, the structure was engineered to accommodate extreme loading conditions, including snow loads ranging from 100 to 200 psf and significant seismic forces acting across the roof diaphragm system.
The project required extensive coordination across trades and systems to align framing, mechanical distribution, and architectural intent within the complex roof geometry. McClure designed a robust system of CFS joists, trusses, and supporting elements to efficiently manage load paths while maintaining constructability.
During construction, the team addressed more than 100 field-driven challenges, developing engineered solutions for unforeseen conditions while preserving the integrity of the predominantly CFS roof structure. This proactive approach minimized rework, avoided costly delays, and maintained performance across the system.
