McClure earned Third Place in the 2026 CFSEI Creative Detail Awards for its work on Legends 267 Apartments in Kansas City, Kansas. The five-story multifamily development delivers 267 residential units above a three-story precast parking garage, introducing high-density, urban-style living to the Legends district.
McClure served as the Engineer of Record for the project, providing structural design for the foundations, three-story precast parking garage, podium, and load-bearing cold-formed steel (CFS) system supporting the residential structure above. The approximately 300,000-square-foot residential structure was carefully coordinated with the 240,000-square-foot parking garage below to maximize height, density, and constructability.
The design utilized a panelized CFS structural system, requiring precise coordination and tight construction tolerances due to limited field adjustability compared to traditional framing methods. To support the five-story structure, McClure engineered targeted bearing walls and strap-braced CFS shear walls to efficiently transfer loads through the podium.
One of the project’s primary challenges was ensuring the precast podium could accommodate concentrated loads from the CFS shear walls. Through detailed analysis, McClure developed a solution that allowed the CFS lateral system to remain viable, avoiding the need for more costly alternatives such as concrete or masonry systems.
By integrating the foundations, podium, garage, and CFS framing into a cohesive structural design, McClure delivered a durable, noncombustible solution while maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Legends 267 Apartments demonstrates McClure’s ability to provide comprehensive structural engineering solutions for complex, multi-story residential developments.
