COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, August 28, 2024 – Mohamed Elsawi has joined McClure’s Structural team as a Structural Designer.
Elsawi earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Zagazig University in Egypt, followed by a Master of Science in Structural Engineering. He then pursued a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia before continuing his studies once again, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering with a focus on structures. Elsawi is a certified Egyptian Engineers Syndicate and Engineer Intern with the Missouri Board.
Before joining McClure, he spent 10 years as a structural designer in Egypt, working with various firms on concrete residential buildings, steel structures for commercial and industrial applications, and steel pedestrian bridges. During this time, he also pursued a teaching and research career at several universities. At the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU), he served as a research assistant on a $2M project, developing advanced tools to predict the behavior of cold-formed steel roof truss systems, and had the honor of presenting their findings at the 2022 ASCE Structures Congress. Additionally, he led a team of graduate students, mentoring them in their research and helping them develop into skilled structural engineers.
Elsawi will work alongside the Structural team to achieve McClure’s vision of making lives better. He is looking forward to deepening his technical expertise in cold-formed steel by working on diverse projects and applications, which are the key to McClure’s continued success. When asked what made him decide to join McClure, he said, “I chose to join McClure because of its exceptional work environment, which offers engineers great growth opportunities in a supportive, family-oriented setting.”
