LENEXA, Kansas, December 1, 2021 – Craig has joined McClure’s Lenexa office as a Professional Land Surveyor.

Chaney began his surveying career in 1985 as a rodman/instrument operator at a small two-person firm. The firm primarily provided boundary surveying of rural properties and residential lots, construction staking, and boundary and topographic survey in urban settings of northeast Kansas. Craig quickly advanced his surveying skills and become a Party Chief and began mentoring young surveyors. After gaining in-depth experience of boundary and topographic surveying along with construction staking, Chaney moved on to work for a civil engineering firm in Lawrence, Kansas where he served as a Senior Party Chief. From there he went on to become an Engineering Technician III with Douglas County Public Works in Lawrence, Kansas.

Chaney received his Kansas Professional Land Surveyors License in 1991. After receiving his license, he returned to his original employer. Shortly thereafter he acquired his own surveying equipment and established his own surveying business, Homestead Land Surveying, which was in operation for several years before being acquired by a civil engineering firm based in Topeka, Kansas.

From 2000 thru 2012, Chaney worked for civil engineering/surveying and mapping firms.  During that time, he was allowed the opportunity to support and oversee many surveys ranging from clients of the States of Kansas and Missouri, Federal Departments of Transportation, United States Corps of Engineers, Municipal and State Parks and Recreation Departments, Renewable Energy Companies, and Oil & Gas Sector and Electric Utility and Transmission companies.

In 2012, Chaney ventured down a different path and began working as the Business Development Manager of an aerial pipeline patrol company, which accrued in excess of 1 million nautical miles of fixed-wing aircraft flight annually conducting PHMSA required pipeline inspections. This company also provided aerial inspections of pipeline assets and electric transmission lines with a fleet of Bell Jet Ranger helicopters. His main focus in this role was to expand the client base of core pipeline inspection patrols, helicopter-based visual inspections, and the service offerings to include aerial technologies of aerial photogrammetric and LiDAR mapping, HD/UHD videography, Infrared Inspection, and Methane Leak Detection, as well as incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) into visual applications.

In his role at McClure, Chaney will be fulfilling the duties of a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in support of current and future projects to achieve our vision of making lives better. He said, ” I look forward to learning more of McClure’s terrestrial and aerial technologies and associating with all McClure staff to assure such technologies continue to evolve into a quality, cost-effective, safe, and profitable business service option.” Chaney is a 14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot with an abundance of experience in aerial photogrammetric mapping data acquisition, data processing, and applications of data set.

When asked what made him decide to join McClure, Chaney said, ” The McClure personnel I know from previous professional associations, relationships, and past project associations, all spoke highly of McClure as a company and assured me that McClure was the “right fit” for me from what they know of my background, experience, and work ethic.”
