Elevating Aviation Infrastructure: Transforming Iowa Airports

In the heart of the Midwest, where aviation meets innovation, our engineering expertise is soaring to new heights. At McClure, we’re proud to be at the forefront of these advancements, as exemplified by our recent ventures at the Council Bluffs Municipal Airport.

As the Council Bluffs Municipal Airport sought to expand and accommodate growing demands, McClure stepped in to provide visionary solutions. The airport’s need to separate corporate aircraft traffic from general aviation and flight school operations led to the creation of the North Executive Campus (NEC).

Our role encompassed:

1. Verifying Existing Site Conditions: Understanding the terrain and layout was paramount. Our meticulous site verification process paved the way for informed decisions.

2. Designing for Growth: Guided by our collaboration with stakeholders, the FAA, and the airport, we developed three preliminary site layout options, each tailored to potential NEC tenants’ requirements.

3. Grading and Drainage Excellence: McClure’s engineering prowess shone as we designed the grading and drainage system for the NEC. This critical infrastructure investment will pave the way for the growth of corporate aircraft charter and transient business traffic.

As this initial project finishes up this fall, the Council Bluffs Municipal Airport will be equipped for substantial expansion, offering improved facilities for corporate aircraft operations and storage.

Our role extended from design to construction administration, where collaboration was paramount. Working closely with the client, we were able to ensure that the airport’s operations continued smoothly throughout the project without the closure of any airfield pavement.

The Council Bluffs Municipal Airport’s NEC expansion is a testament to our commitment to safety, innovation, and sustainable growth. With each project, we aim higher, fostering a future where aviation and engineering provide connectivity and accessibility for all.
