COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, February 22, 2024 – Jesse Barnes passed the 16-hour Structural Engineering (SE) exam to become a licensed Structural Engineer.

The Structural Engineer exam, spanning two days and consisting of 16 hours of exam time, uniquely assesses both high seismic and high wind knowledge essential for structural engineering practice. Comprising of multiple-choice questions in the first half and constructed responses in the second, it stands as one of the toughest bars to pass among licensed professions, with pass rates averaging between 25% to 45%. With over 12 states mandating separate licensure for structural engineers, the significance of this achievement cannot be overstated. Aspiring structural engineers must also complete 16 hours of structural design courses. Altogether, the total examination hours required for licensure in any state as a structural engineer amount to 37 hours.

“On behalf of McClure and the Structural team, I would like to congratulate Jesse Barnes on passing the Structural Engineering (SE) exam to become a licensed Structural Engineer,” said Cody Dailey, Structural Vice President. “His achievement speaks volumes about his exceptional knowledge, skills, and dedication to the field of structural engineering. We are truly fortunate to have him as a part of our team and look forward to his continued success in advancing McClure’s expertise and making lives better.”

“I’m thrilled to announce my success in passing the SE exam, a journey filled with countless nights and weekends with hours of studying,” said Jesse Barnes, Project Manager. “This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, whose encouragement fueled my commitment. I am excited to apply this expertise to new professional challenges on the horizon.”
