July 27, 2023 – McClure is proudly celebrating twenty-three interns for National Intern Day 2023. McClure’s intern class has spent the summer working in Ankeny, Carroll, Clive, Coralville, Columbia, Fort Dodge, Lenexa, Macon, North Kansas City, and Sioux City offices alongside the Structural, Survey, Transportation, Water, and Development teams. During the busiest time of the year, these interns play a crucial part in supporting McClure, all the while gaining practical, hands-on experience in their respective fields of study.

Several interns have provided a deeper look into McClure’s internship program. Continue reading to learn how McClure interns are making lives better and visit our Internship and Co-Op page for more information.

“One of my favorite projects has been Corridor Plaza located in Fort Dodge, where I helped to adjust the site plan to better fit the view proposed for it. I also enjoyed working on the Buena Vista University project which increased my knowledge of grading in AutoCAD tremendously. I completed a co-op last year and was impressed by the company, so when I was approached with a return offer, I was very happy to accept.” – Nicole Deetz

“From day one, I was working on projects, and I really feel like I have been involved and working on meaningful projects. The entire experience has been fun! I have worked on a variety of projects this summer, but my favorite was 44345 Madison because it was my first project that I did on my own (with some help, obviously). But I thought it was amazing that as an intern I was given a project that I got to do on my own. The project was mine from start to finish which was really cool. Overall, this summer has been a huge learning experience.” – Allison Bright

“One of my favorite jobs I have worked on was Adam/Haynes. I was able to coordinate and work under Josh Garton on the design of the Cold-Formed Steel Curtain Walls. The project is based out of Birmingham Michigan for Damico Contracting. The best thing I have learned while in my internship is how important relationships are within the workplace. Being able to work together as a team and coordinate different projects with different people is a good skill to be able to pick up. I have learned how to think more practically when it comes to the design and be able to break down certain problems into textbook questions.” – Don White

“I know I can lean on and ask any questions to anyone in the office. The more experience, the better! While there were many firms that I talked to and thought highly of, none compared in their focus and commitment to community and kindness. Events such as McClure Day, volunteering events in our area, welcoming community members and visiting coworkers all show how much each employee of McClure commits to making not only the Midwest but also the East Coast a better place to be.” – Matthew Pauling
