February 10, 2023 – McClure is working to fulfill its vision of making lives better in more ways than one. Through the McClure Foundation, McClure is opening doors to STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics – opportunities. McClure proudly supported the following organizations in the second half of 2022:

Mizzou Society of Women Engineers

Girl Scout Engineering Day is an annual event hosted by Mizzou’s Society of Women Engineers. The day consists of teaching 40 elementary-aged girls about careers in engineering through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and speakers. Each girl is also gifted a goodie bag of memorabilia from the day ensuring they are reminded of how fun a career in engineering can be.

Fort Dodge Robotics Team

The Fort Dodge Senior High School has one of the most active STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) groups in the Fort Dodge area. The school offers an after-school STEM program that takes part in the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics competition. Fort Dodge currently has two Robotic teams that participate in a local league every year competing with over 20 teams locally and around 200 teams statewide. The program gives students opportunities to showcase their talents and develop technical and soft skills needed for a career in STEM.

Merrill Middle School Science Club

Merrill Middle School has focused its efforts on expanding its STEAM opportunities for students. The STEAM activities include Lego FIRST League, Science Club, Gardening Club, Nature Club, Mustang TV, Makerspace, and planned joint endeavors. McClure’s funding supports activities for at least 50 Merrill families, eliminates barriers to participation in regional and national competitions, and fosters the school’s plans to build a coordinated group of STEAM-related opportunities for the students. The Merrill Middle School Science Club is building excitement around STEAM and connecting students with lifelong passions and opportunities.

Fort Dodge Play and Learn Center

The Fort Dodge Play and Learn Center is a nonprofit organization that opened its doors in August of 2022. The play and learn center allow families to connect with others in the community and gives children a place to explore and learn. They are aiming to provide rich opportunities such as creating art, building with materials, exploring through hands-on sensory experiences, and more. The Fort Dodge Play and Learn Center hosts play times for the community and has a future goal to offer educational classes for children and families.

Kuemper Catholic Junior and Senior High School STEAM Activities

Kuemper Catholic Junior and Senior High School has a goal of expanding its STEAM activities. The school would like to create a makerspace for its 7-12th graders. The students will use this space to collaborate, be creative, and learn with a hands-on, investigative approach. The McClure Foundation funds are helping the school buy items such as green screens for productions, 3D printers, robotics kits, etc. The school is also planning to start a STEAM club where local volunteers from STEAM fields can work with the students. The makerspace will prepare Kuemper students for the future through the learning of new skills and the introduction to STEAM careers.

Immaculate Conception Elementary School (Charles City, IA)

Immaculate Conception (IC) Elementary School is a pre-K-6th grade school located in Charles City, Iowa. The faculty and staff at IC are committed to furthering the STEAM program to promote problem-solving and critical thinking. The school is raising money for a preschool playground/outdoor learning space and other STEAM-related items. McClure is excited to help support the purchase of these hands-on tools to support STEAM learning.
