McClure Supports STEAM

by | Jul 21, 2022 | Clive, News

CLIVE, IOWA, July 21, 2022 – McClure is working to fulfill its vision of making lives better in more ways than one. Through the McClure Foundation, we’re working to open doors to STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics – opportunities. McClure has proudly supported the following organizations in 2022:

University of Kansas – Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders is a service-based organization focused on helping communities locally, domestically, and internationally. The KU-EWB chapter has an ongoing project in Azacilo-Colani, Bolivia where they are building solar-heated showers and bathroom facilities throughout the town. They are also working in local communities with Habitat for Humanity to purchase and rebuild old housing units for an affordable price.

Scenic City Foundation-Fly Iowa

McClure’s sponsorship will go towards Iowa Falls Municipal Airport’s expenses in hosting Fly Iowa 2022. The event will include an air show, a fly-in, a drive-in breakfast, educational displays, and an Aviation youth rally. During the Fly Iowa event, children get to experience interactive classrooms to learn various aspects of being a pilot. Admission to the event is free.

Trees Forever

Trees Forever is an organization with a commitment to making the world a greener, more beautiful place for everyone. With the help of volunteers and donations, Trees Forever is able to plant trees to make an impact on the community.

UMKC – Concrete Canoe Team

Concrete Canoe is an ASCE-sponsored collegiate competition in which universities from across the nation design, construct, and race canoes made of lightweight concrete and reinforcement. UMKC is participating in this competition and is using the McClures funds towards material, software, and transportation. Sean Purdue, part of McClure’s 2022 internship class and President of the UMKC student chapter of ASCE, led the team to a regional win in April 2022.

Latinas Latinos Al Éxito Inc.

The McClure funds will be used to support Al Éxito summer camp: Power and Perception and Youth Action (P.A.P.A.Y.A.). P.A.P.A.Y.A. is a partnership between Al Éxito and Science Bound at Iowa State University. Science Bound is a nationally recognized program that empowers Iowa students of color to pursue degrees and careers in engineering, mathematics, agriculture, science, and technology. The students at this camp will get engaging, hands-on experiences with professionals that reflect their life experiences.

Build My Future

Build My Future is a construction career day and industry showcase. Build My Future gives students the opportunity to spend a day in the construction industry through an interactive showcase. The student activities include educational displays, equipment operations, and learning labs.
