In Coralville, the 1st Avenue interchange has become a popular destination for both locals and tourists, especially with the Iowa River Landing Shopping and Entertainment District located just south of the interchange. This district attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, putting significant strain on the outdated interchange. To address the increased traffic demands, the Iowa DOT initiated a reconstruction project, incorporating a modern diverging-diamond design. The project includes a bike trail tunnel beneath the interstate, several complex MSE walls, a new bridge spanning the interstate, new on and off ramps, and new interstate pavement. McClure’s Survey Team handled all construction staking and layout for the project. Responsibilities included construction staking and layout, coordination with clients and contractors, report preparation and survey documentation, field data collection, and supervising and managing survey crews.
