Atmosphere Lincoln
Lincoln, NE
The Atmosphere Lincoln building is a collegiate housing development located in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska, near the University of Nebraska campus. The project was constructed in two parts: a six-story wood-framed structure and a 13-story tower built with cold-formed steel (CFS). The tower features a single level of precast hollow-core concrete flooring supported by CFS walls, followed by eleven levels of non-composite concrete deck over CFS joists and composite deck supported by CFS walls, and capped with a roof deck supported by CFS joists and walls. Lateral stability was provided by cast-in-place concrete shear walls at the stair and elevator cores, with two additional concrete walls at the ends of the U-shaped building for added support. With a finished roof elevation of 138 feet 6 inches and a parapet height reaching 142 feet 6 inches, Atmosphere Lincoln stands as one of the tallest load-bearing CFS structures constructed to date.
Highlights
- Utilized 3-hour fire-rated CFS walls to support precast hollow-core slabs, meeting fire code requirements for high-rise construction
- Reaches approximately 140 feet in height, making it one of the tallest load-bearing cold-formed steel structures built to date
- CFS structure was carefully coordinated to integrate with adjacent wood framing, precast concrete, and cast-in-place concrete systems for a cohesive design
