Kansas City Header and 20-inch Pipeline

Kansas City Header and 20-inch Pipeline

Kansas City, MO

To support the long-term reliability of its natural gas infrastructure, Spire Inc. is replacing aging pipelines—some in service for decades—that serve the City of Kansas City and surrounding communities. The new 20-inch pipeline will stretch from South Kansas City to a hub in Sugar Creek, Missouri, establishing a modern backbone for the region’s gas distribution network and reducing the risk of leaks associated with aging infrastructure.

Spire selected McClure to provide comprehensive design services for the 20-mile natural gas pipeline. McClure began by conducting a detailed route analysis, coordinating with surrounding municipalities, gathering extensive utility data, and identifying potential conflicts with planned city projects to determine the optimal alignment. Survey and design services were performed across multiple years and phases, each presenting unique challenges based on site-specific conditions. McClure’s scope included land surveying, easement exhibit preparation, and the development of construction plans. Consistent coordination with Spire—including weekly project meetings—was critical to maintaining the project schedule and ensuring successful delivery at every stage.
