Key Hotel at Q Casino and Resort
Dubuque, IA
McClure is serving as the specialty structural engineer for the new seven-story Key Hotel at Q Casino + Resort in Dubuque, Iowa. The hotel includes five levels of load-bearing cold-formed steel (CFS) framing over a structural steel podium, with a structural steel rooftop amenity space above. McClure’s scope includes the design of the CFS superstructure, which utilizes composite deck spanning between demising walls and incorporates slab beams across corridors. The lateral system, designed by the Engineer of Record (EOR), consists of concrete shear walls at the stair and elevator cores, with the steel podium and rooftop framing also provided by the EOR.
Part of Q Casino’s multi-phase redevelopment, the Key Hotel is designed to provide 90 guest rooms and a rooftop restaurant and event space, contributing to a broader effort to enhance the property’s amenities and appeal. Located on Schmitt Island, the project requires deep foundations to address site-specific geotechnical conditions. McClure’s work ensures the CFS framing system is structurally sound, efficient, and well-coordinated with the EOR’s steel and concrete design, supporting a fast-paced construction schedule and the overall project vision.
