The City of Memphis’ Water Treatment Plant began operation in 1968. Apart from the addition of another settling basin and new glass-fused-steel ground storage tank clearwells in the late 1980s, there have been no significant improvements since it first began operation. McClure was selected by the City of Memphis to assist in developing and implementing a water improvements project. The multifaceted project includes significant improvements to the water treatment plant, improvements to the distribution system, and maintenance of the water tower. All improvements are necessary to ensure the City continues to reliably produce and distribute clean, safe drinking water. The first phase – construction of water treatment plant improvements – is currently underway and is funded solely by the State Revolving Fund loan program. The second phase – distribution system and water tower improvements and addition of chemical feed equipment to the water intake at Lake Showme – is in the funding approval stage. McClure completed a new Owners Supervised Plan for the City in conjunction with the improvements design project to assist in distribution system improvements prioritizing.
