Windsong Road Bridge

Windsong Road Bridge

Milan, MO

McClure provided comprehensive engineering services for the replacement of Bridge No. 3480010 over Mussel Fork Creek in Sullivan County, Missouri, under the BRO program. The original three-span wooden deck bridge had been closed due to a shifted pier and structural deficiencies. McClure's scope included survey, hydraulic analysis, permitting, preliminary and final bridge design, and construction observation. The new design features a two-span structure with cast-in-place concrete piles for the substructure and steel plate girders with a concrete deck for the superstructure. This configuration enhances hydraulic capacity and reduces scour potential. Additionally, the increased width accommodates two-way traffic and large agricultural equipment, improving overall accessibility and safety.

Highlights

  • Utilized Missouri’s Off-System Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation (BRO) program to secure funding for the bridge replacement project
  • Designed a two-span bridge featuring cast-in-place concrete piles for the substructure and steel plate girders with a concrete deck for the superstructure
  • Increased bridge width accommodates two-way traffic and large agricultural equipment, enhancing accessibility and safety
  • Transitioned from a three-span to a two-span structure, improving hydraulic capacity and reducing potential for scour
