RUNWAY 18/36 REHABILITATION- ANKENY REGIONAL AIRPORT

Project Overview

The Ankeny Regional Airport is currently the third busiest airport in the state of Iowa and provides private, corporate, and freight operation aviation services to the greater Des Moines area and Polk County. The Airport wanted to further its mission of providing safe and accessible aircraft accommodations to the surrounding community and tasked McClure with the rehabilitation of Runway 18/36. The proposed improvements by McClure included:

  1. Pavement marking removal.
  2. Pavement maintenance consisting of full-depth slab replacements, partial depth patching, full depth patching, diamond grinding, PCC joint cleaning and sealing, and PCC crack route & seal.
  3. Permanent pavement marking (waterborne).

McClure is providing services including design, bidding, and construction administration to the Airport while coordinating with contractors and working closely with the client and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Project Highlights:

As the primary runway, Runway 18/36 sees the majority of traffic travelling in and out of Ankeny Regional Airport. McClure developed a construction phasing plan with this in mind to minimize the impact of runway closures on business and operations. The entire rehabilitation of Runway 18/36 was able to be completed while keep crosswind Runway 4/22 open for the entire project aside from two weekend closures.
