THE COLLEGIATE – LINCOLN

Project Overview

The Atmosphere Lincoln building located in Lincoln, Nebraska is a collegiate housing development in downtown Lincoln near the campus of The University of Nebraska. The building was constructed in two parts consisting of a 6-story wood structure and a 13-story cold-formed steel (CFS) structure. The 13-story CFS tower included one story of precast hollow-core concrete floor supported by CFS walls, eleven stories of non-composite concrete deck over CFS joists and composite deck supported by CFS walls, and one story of roof structure supported by CFS joists and walls. The lateral support for this structure was provided by cast-in-place concrete walls for the stair and elevator shafts throughout the building. Two additional concrete walls at each end of the U-shaped building were also required for the lateral stability of the structure. The total height of the structure at finish roof elevation was 138’-6”, with parapet up to 142’-6” making this one of the tallest load bearing CFS structures to date.
