VINE STREET IMPROVEMENTS AND CULVERT REPLACEMENT

Project Overview

McClure partnered with Boone Construction Company for the City of Macon’s Vine Street Improvements Box Culvert Replacement. McClure performed a topographic survey, hydraulic calculations, designed the culvert to allow two-way traffic, and considered the effect of the new culvert on the 24” sanitary sewer located downstream. The finished product is a 19’ wide by 9’ tall cast-in-place concrete box culvert with the top slab designed for with no fill for traffic loads. McClure also developed final construction plans, specifications, bidding and contract documents and opinion of construction costs. We assisted the City to obtain the required Corps and MDNR permits, and we provided Boone Construction Company with construction staking.

Project Highlights:

  • Improved hydraulic capacity of the culvert to reduce the severity of flooding on the roadway and upstream, further improving access to the area.
  • Replaced deteriorated culvert.
  • Increased the width of the roadway to allow for 2-way traffic over the culvert.
  • Improved bank protection with installation of rock blanket up and down stream of the culvert.
