McClure was responsible for the design of prefabricated cold-formed steel (CFS) panels at the building’s entryway, focusing on doubly curved panels that span between structural steel members with compound mitered connections. This project exemplifies our ability to deliver innovative engineering solutions for complex structural forms. Our scope included the design of 3,000 square feet of roof panels, 1,000 square feet of exterior soffit panels, and 2,000 square feet of interior field-framed soffit framing. These components required careful coordination due to their complex geometry, structural loading demands, and integration with surrounding systems. The roof panels were designed to accommodate standard ASCE 7 roof loads—including dead, live, snow, and wind—as well as an increased 30 psf roof live load.

Each panel comprises two curved CFS beams spanning between structural steel roof beams, with perpendicular joists completing the panel. Due to the doubly curved finish geometry, the wide-flange steel beams varied significantly in both elevation and alignment relative to the panels. As a result, the CFS beams required connections above, below, and sometimes mid-height on the steel beams. In some cases, support points extended beyond the beam footprint. These challenges were addressed by prefabricating the panels through RadiusTrack, which enabled precise fabrication of customized connection points to account for these variances. The panelized system, incorporating integrated beams, minimized the number of field connections while improving their robustness—streamlining installation. The reduced quantity of field-located joists also simplified set times, particularly for curved geometries.

For the interior ceiling, McClure designed a two-way system using radiused studs at 4-foot spacing and radiused hat channels, with discrete hanging points. To avoid loading the roof system, a secondary joist was installed between the structural steel members to support the ceiling system. Through strategic detailing, prefabrication, and BIM coordination, McClure delivered an efficient installation process and a visually striking structure that met the owner’s design vision.
