Arthur N. Neu Airport, Rehabilitation of Runway and Taxiway
Carroll, IA
Over its nearly 80-year history, the Arthur N. Neu Airport in Carroll, Iowa has grown into one of the busiest airports in Western Iowa, averaging approximately 700 landings per month. The airport features two paved and lighted runways: Runway 13-31 (5,500 feet by 100 feet) and Runway 3-21 (3,300 feet by 60 feet). Constructed in 2006, Runway 3-21 and the connecting taxiway required pavement maintenance, including joint and crack sealing and the reapplication of waterborne pavement markings. The terminal apron, last sealed in 2002, was also in need of similar repairs.
Through coordination with the FAA, the project scope was expanded to include the removal of the old turnaround on Runway 13-31 and the installation of new pavement markings along the runway. The Carroll Airport Commission enlisted McClure to provide design, bidding, and construction administration services. McClure’s recommended improvements included joint and crack cleaning and resealing, full-depth panel replacements, and new pavement markings to restore the integrity and safety of the airfield surfaces.
