From both a design and construction perspective, this 11-story student housing project is the model for many projects to come. Constructed of prefabricated cold formed steel wall panels and joists over a steel podium, this building has rocketed into the sky. This, combined with extensive 3D coordination between trades during design, has significantly reduced cost and delays associated with field issues. MEC also performed frequent on-site observations to ensure that construction follows the design intent.
This was an eight-story building designed to be the centerpiece of Port Canaveral, Florida. This was a high-profile building that can be seen for miles in every direction. McClure served as the cladding engineer for Radius Track Corporation on the project. The cladding was constructed with a water-tight system over radiused cold-formed steel stud panels. The panels were built offsite and hoisted into place on the exterior of the building.
The structure is a panelized radiused cold-formed stud structure. The project is designed for coastal high wind loads using wind study results for each individual element. The project can be seen for miles and stands as a well-lit structural beacon in the region.
