SYCAMORE STREET IMPROVEMENTS- CITY LIMITS TO S. GILBERT, PHASE I

Project Overview

The City of Iowa City was under pressure to construct necessary infrastructure improvements to provide access and services to a new elementary school planned for the south side of Iowa City. The Iowa City Community School District plans to open Alexander Elementary School in the Fall of 2015 and roadway and utility improvements, along a half-mile stretch of formerly county road, were necessary.

During the Preliminary Design phase, the typical section was revised and the traditional intersection configurations were changed to roundabouts. The McClure team took on these changes and delivered Preliminary Design and Final Design documents on-time and on-budget to keep this important project on schedule.

A storm water outfall channel was included in the design to convey runoff to the nearby Makada Buffer wetland, part of the larger South Sycamore Storm Water Quality complex.
