University of Florida Malachowsky Hall for Data Science and Information Technology

Malachowsky Hall for Data Science and Information Technology is a landmark facility on the University of Florida campus, showcasing innovation in prefabricated cold-formed steel (CFS) design. McClure served as the specialty CFS engineer for over 170,000 square feet of exterior non-bearing panels, collaborating with Kenpat, N-RG Cladding, and the panel fabricator to deliver a fully prefabricated enclosure system.
The design paired CFS wall panels with 3D volumetric aluminum cladding, using high-capacity connections to streamline installation. Multistory panels were engineered for efficiency, with standardized jamb and header systems that allowed modular wall and window sections to be swapped interchangeably.
McClure produced color-coded drawings, validated the system with a full-scale mock-up, and coordinated attachment points through BIM to minimize fieldwork. Preinstalled lock-in rails enabled rapid cladding installation, transferring loads directly to the CFS structure without overbuilding the framing.
Malachowsky Hall reflects McClure’s innovative approach to modular CFS systems, delivering a high-performance building envelope with speed and precision.
