HUB I – GAINESVILLE, FL

Project Overview

Hub 1 is an off-campus student housing structure in Gainesville, Florida near the University of Florida. The structure is an 8-story building with parking, retail/amenity, and residential spaces. The total size of the structure is a about 180,000-square-feet of space with units ranging from 1-5 bedrooms. There is a parking garage and many amenities for the residents. The majority of the structure is cold-formed-steel (CFS) load bearing wall panels with open web CFS joists and concrete floor deck. The project required innovative new details and construction methods that combined CFS and concrete materials.

 

Project Highlights:

  • This is one of the first jobs in the country to be constructed with stay-in-place CFS formwork for structural concrete walls within the structure.
  • The concrete walls formed with CFS panels served as the shearwalls for the lateral system of the structure.
  • Numerous new industry details were created to make the CFS formwork walls work including new details for embeds, wall reinforcing, splices, and diaphragm reinforcing.
